First of all, to obtain Japanese citizenship, one must be at least 20 years old. While most countries set 18 as the minimum age, Japan is one of the exceptions in this regard.

Having a criminal record will negatively impact the application process. Japan considers individuals' social integration and adherence to social obligations, such as paying taxes, as key criteria for successful applications.

Additionally, you will need to undergo a health check when applying for Japanese citizenship. You must have a health certificate.

In addition to the above conditions, you must have resided in Japan with a residence permit for 5 years prior to applying. Another factor considered for citizenship is the belief that the applicant and their family can provide for themselves. If the applicant has no connections with institutions or organizations that harbor malicious intentions towards Japan, they will be granted citizenship.

Unlike naturalization, to apply for citizenship, those who have been in Japan for a long period with a long-term Japanese visa must obtain permanent residency. Then, if they meet the requirements, they must apply in writing and in person.

Regarding citizenship by birth, a child is considered a Japanese citizen if at least one of their parents is a Japanese citizen. If the identity of the child's parents is unknown, the child born in Japan is also considered a Japanese citizen.
