Do not cause a forest fire

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the first half of 2021 , in Turkey, where 29% of the land area is covered by forests, more than 2,000 forest fires occur annually. It is stated that 90% of these fires are human-caused, and an average of 7,000 hectares of land are damaged.

Forest fire crimes

Crimes of causing forest fires within the scope of Article 110 of the Forest Law No. 6831,

• The crime of causing a forest fire through negligence
• The crime of intentionally setting a forest on fire
• Death of a person as a result of the fire
• Negligent actions are punishable even if they do not result in a forest fire

The penalty for the crime of causing a forest fire

According to the Forest Law No. 6831,

• Those who cause a forest fire due to negligence are punished with imprisonment ranging from 2 to 7 years.
• If the person who started the fire assists in extinguishing it, the penalty may be reduced by half.
• A person who intentionally causes a forest fire is punished with imprisonment of not less than 10 years and a judicial fine.
• Those who set fire to state forests as part of terrorist organization activities are punished with life imprisonment and a judicial fine.
