Traffic Ban Penalty

A traffic banis imposed when a vehicle is impounded for a certain period due to reasons such as the driver's failure to comply with traffic rules, significant deficiencies in the vehicle, or missing vehicle documents. According to Article 3 of the Highway Traffic Law, a "traffic ban" is defined as follows: In the cases specified in this Law, the traffic police confiscate the vehicle's documents and impound the vehicle to a designated location, thus removing it from traffic.

Conditions that lead to a driving ban

While vehicle impoundment penalties are most often due to the lack of traffic insurance, the reasons for impoundment can be listed as follows:

• Failure to have vehicles inspected
• Drivers who register their vehicles must obtain a registration certificate in their own name within one month
• Loading, transporting, or having transported goods that require special permission without authorization
• The use of license plate colors of publicly owned vehicles on unofficial vehicles,
• Using the vehicle for a purpose other than that stated in the motor vehicle registration and traffic certificate,
• Exceeding the transport limit during vehicle loading
• Using faulty or problematic vehicles that do not meet technical specifications in a way that endangers other users on the road
• Failure to notify the vehicle registration authority of any technical changes to the vehicle within one month
• Transportation of hazardous and harmful substances without necessary permits and precautions
• Failure to display mandatory symbols, text, lights, colors, shapes, or similar markings on vehicles that indicate their type
• Operating while exceeding the maximum weight limit on cargo vehicles
• Using registered vehicles without a traffic license and registration plate
• Using unregistered vehicles that do not have a traffic license and registration plate
• Using or traveling in noisy, smoke-producing vehicles that endanger traffic flow
• Commercial vehicles transporting passengers within municipal boundaries without municipal permission and license,
• Obtaining transportation services from company vehicles operating without permission or license from the municipality

If you wish to inquire about a vehicle's impoundment status, this can be done at a notary during the purchase and sale process. Vehicle impoundment status can also be checked using the license plate number on the General Directorate of Security's website.

Removal of the sentence

The penalty for impounding a vehicle is lifted upon fulfillment of the aforementioned conditions and payment of the fine.
