Workplace accident prevention: how to make sure your employees stay safe at work | Life Is An Episode

The workplace incentive premium is a support premium provided under the Unemployment Insurance Law No. 4447 to workplaces that have not experienced any workplace accidents. However, this support premium is only given to workplaces classified as highly hazardous, employing more than 10 personnel, and which have not experienced any fatal or permanently disabling workplace accidents in the last 3 years.

Scope of incentives

Under Law No. 4447 on Unemployment Insurance, in workplaces operating in the very hazardous category and employing more than 10 personnel, the unemployment insurance premium, which is deducted at a rate of 3% of the insured's earnings, is reduced to a total of 2% (1% employee share and 1% employer share) if no fatal or permanently disabling work-related accidents have occurred in the last 3 years.

Conditions for the incentive

The criteria for receiving the 1% unemployment insurance premium incentive offered by the workplace incentive program are as follows:

  • The workplace operates in a very hazardous category,
  • Having at least 11 employees (for employers with multiple workplaces operating in the very hazardous category throughout Turkey, the total number of insured employees of these workplaces is taken as the basis for determining whether the number of employees exceeds 10),
  • The workplace must not have experienced a fatal or permanently disabling workplace accident in the last 3 years.

The validity period of the incentive

The eligibility period for workplace incentive premiums is 3 years. However, employers of workplaces operating in the very hazardous category and that have not experienced any fatal or disability-related work-related accidents in the last 3 years can benefit from this incentive for 3 years, including the following year.

Application for incentives

There are no specific application requirements for those wishing to benefit from the incentive. In fact, no documents need to be submitted to the Social Security Institution to receive the incentive. However, workplaces that do not meet one or more of the eligibility conditions must report this.

Termination of the incentive

In the event of a fatal or permanently disabling workplace accident, the incentive program for the workplacewill be terminated from the beginning of the month/period following the date on which the incident is determined by the Ministry or the Institution.
