Consumer Law…

Consumer Law is the branch of law that deals with the relationship between consumers and sellers, considering the health, safety, and economic interests of the consumer; it provides guidance and measures to support the consumer in this regard, and regulates provisions aimed at compensating the consumer for any damages incurred.

Regulations concerning consumer law in Türkiye were first established in 1995 with Law No. 4077 on the Protection of Consumers. Subsequently, some amendments were made to this law, and in 2014, Law No. 6502 on the Protection of Consumers was created.

Today, as technological capabilities increase, consumers who benefit from them interact with a complex network of vendors. The types of contracts covered under the Law No. 6502 on Consumer Protection are:

  1. Installment sales contracts
  2. Consumer credit agreements
  3. Housing finance contracts
  4. Contracts concluded outside the workplace
  5. Distance contracts (especially contracts concluded through various means such as the internet and telephone)
  6. Distance contracts relating to financial services
  7. Timeshare and long-term vacation service contracts
  8. Package tour contracts
  9. These are subscription agreements

 

The competent court to which a consumer can apply in consumer rights disputes…

In disputes arising from consumer activities and transactions related to consumers, lawsuits are filed in consumer courts. Thanks to the Consumer Protection Laws numbered 4077 and 6502, consumers are now increasingly in a more advantageous position through these laws. Having gained an advantage over economic enterprises, consumers can apply to Consumer Courts when they encounter any disputes.
